Growing up in Iowa and the youngest of 7 kids I learned so much about life and family and community and work. At 14 years old my first job was detasseling corn which began early every morning to beat the heat and humidity of the summer sun. In high school I worked in a high end women’s clothing boutique and balanced school, music, theater, church, and work. My first friends were my siblings. And to this day they are still one of the best things in my life. A first generation college student, I came south to Tennessee and graduated from Milligan College about an hour up the road from here.
I married Paul – now an extraordinary college president – in my late twenties and we set out on a fantastic journey that has taken us from the west coast to the east coast. We have four amazing kids, one terrific daughter-in-law, and two adorable grandsons. They all love adventure, travel, serving others, family, and a good game of competitive family Monopoly. We have a beloved 95 lb Weimaraner named Jack Cooper. In 2014 we showed up in these mountains and I fell in love. With the culture, with the people, with the mountains, with the food, and with the community we call WNC – Western North Carolina. I live in Black Mountain, a quaint mountain town with the picture postcard downtown for shopping and eating. Southern hospitality is strong in this part of the world and specifically in my neighborhood. A finer community of people you will not find. We are 15 minutes to downtown Asheville or the Biltmore House. And we are 7 minutes from hiking Mt. Lookout, Greybeard, Kitsuma, or Little Piney. A 15 minute drive has you cruising on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Can you see why I love this place?
I decided to join the world of real estate in 2016 and launch my own firm the end of 2020. Working with people to find or sell a home brings me great joy and energy. I love meeting new people and helping them during a time of transition to find a home that is a great fit for them and their family. Or marketing a home and finding a qualified and excited buyer. And I love building a trusted team of seasoned and new realtors who love the same.
For those who are interested my Myers-Briggs is ENTP. My StrengthFinder strengths are Arranger, Adaptability, Connectedness, Positivity, Empathy. And my Enneagram is a 2 – Helper - with a wing 3 – Achiever.
Well, that is me. I look forward to getting to know YOU. Shoot me a text or an email and tell me about yourself, what you are looking for, and how I can partner with you to sell your current home or find your next home.
Joellen made the seemingly daunting process of finding and purchasing a home a pleasurable journey. She prepared me incrementally along the path, teaching and encouraging wherever needed, with all integrity, and always had my best interest in mind. In a word, she is trustworthy across the board.
Joellen helped us at every turn selling our home and purchasing a new one in the same time frame. She saved us some $$$ by making recommendations in our sales negotiations. She is personable, honest and forthcoming.
Joellen helped make buying our home a smooth and mostly stress-free process. She helped us find homes to look at, was flexible in her hours to view homes with us and had great insight and ideas in helping us see potential and understand the opportunities and risks in each home. We did not feel pressured or uncomfortable with her. She helped explain the process as it went along and made sure we had the contacts we needed in the area from loan agents to inspectors and handymen.
Joellen was wonderful. She was knowledgable, efficient, and made the whole process not only smooth but enjoyable. I can't recommend her highly enough, and I absolutely love my new house.
